Art installations have existed for a long time. It's therapeutic. It's a performance. A statement where objects are fashioned, curated, made and displayed site-specific for a reason : To both imbue a sense of otherness and inclusivity. A different way to see and feel things. A perspective. The art installation serves as a playful - provocative at times - needling and urging of the senses towards a kind of framework, suggestion or direction. Something is trying to be explained and defined. Why are these things arranged and displayed in a particular way? What is it saying and what isn't it saying?
It serves as a narrative, a response from the artist about a certain subject, topic or emotion. It serves to point us somewhere. Can arranging and curating objects be called art? In my belief, if it resonates with the viewer compositionally, emotionally, financially, spiritually - Yes, why not?
